SHA2017

What's it like to sleep in a Kartent? I can't actually tell you that, but I can tell you what I know. Because we were generously given a Kartent to use for a short and silly promotional video. And so we had to set it up and try it out.

Last week we closed the ticket shop for T-shirts and Hoodies. The reasoning for this is that they have been ordered in large numbers and they now actually have to be made, go through Q&A and transported to The Netherlands.

Since there are very few recorded talks left from OHM2013, it seemed like a good idea to explain the fail-safes and redundancies C3VOC and Team Productiehuis are bringing to the track tents at SHA2017.

A CTF is a Capture The Flag hacking game. Which generally exists of multiple hacking-related challenges which need to be solved during the time the CTF takes place. Players play in teams and compete against each other. Most CTFs run for about 24-48 hours and can be played online. During the CTF all challenges are provided in a controlled environment, and everything is completely legal. No hacking of external parties or the other teams takes place. During SHA 2017 we will be organizing a CTF that can be played both onsite and online.

A few weeks ago we announced that Badge 'is a go'. The positive response overwhelmed us so much that we immediately felt we needed to build more badges and make them more awesome. Building this many badges is hard work and we want to have some fun with this. Balancing the budget between more badges and more awesomeness is the most difficult problem we are challenged to solve. We would love to do both but for now, we have chosen more badges. There is, however, a way in which the badge can be more awesome, and for this, we'll need your help. In true kick-starting fashion, we are announcing stretch goals!

In 2016, Centrelink started using the data from the Australian Taxation Office to see if welfare recipients had overpayments or ‘debt.They are doing this automated, where human oversight is reduced.

One of the most asked questions of SHA2017 up until now is the amount of tickets that is sold. Historically, this data was not widely distributed.  The number of tickets sold at HIP/HAL/WTH/HAR/OHM/SHA was either completely unknown, guesstimated, kept secret or lost.

But with a new board comes the opportunity to do things differently. One of those things is to share the amount of ticket sold. And that will start today.

Decentralisation is a hacker value. So, without diminishing any value of the great work Team:Power is putting into the power infrastructure at SHA2017, some entrepreneurial spirits took it onto themselves to start tinkering with an alternative power infrastructure. This allows for decentralised power generation at SHA2017.
